In Fall of 2020, Gartner Digital Markets carried on the annual tradition of hosting a voluntary Hackathon to encourage the exploration of new ideas that can address business needs and potential for growth.
The Problem
One of the weaker areas I identified within Gartner's business unit, Software Advice, was the super high bounce rate of our forms. Users populate these forms to receive a personal consultation, and helps their small or midsize business find the right software to address their needs.
~85%
of users leave their software advisory forms incomplete
of users leave their software advisory forms incomplete
Solution
My hackathon idea gamifies a sequence of questions that guide small business owners to software recommendations which are tailored to their business needs.
This encourages user autonomy; small business owners can take action on their own without investing significant time to research, talk to a person, or browse through numerous category pages to decipher a good fit.
User Journey
Results
My team's project was not chosen as a winner in the hackathon. However it did inspire a simplified feature that went into a limited test pilot on another Gartner business unit's platform, Capterra.
